Naturally ruminants are grass eaters therefore their Digestive System is developed accordingly to digest fibrous feeds i.e. green & dry roughages. However, due to commercial approach of ruminants’ rearing, we started offering high grain, low forage, fine-chopped and fermented forage (silage) in their ration and such feeds favourexcessive production and accumulation of acids in the rumen resulting into ruminal acidosis, a bovine metabolic disease that affects dairy cattle negatively. Symptoms of acidosis are little or no feed intake, little or no rumination, deceased milk fat content, increased heart rate, increased breathing rate, diarrhoea, lethargy& death.

जुगाली करने वाले रोमंथी (ruminant) पशु प्राकृतिक रूप से घासों को खाने वाले हैं और इसीलिए इनका पाचन तंत्र रेशे युक्त चारों को पचाने के लिए अधिक उपयुक्त होता है. लेकिन दुधारू पशुपालन के व्यवसायीकरण के चलते दूध देने वाले पशुओं की खाद्य व्यवस्थाएं पूरी तरह से बदली जा चुकीं हैं जिस कारण इन्हें प्राकृतिक रूप से उपलब्ध घासों के स्थान पर महीन रूप से कुट्टी किया गया कम रेशे वाले चारों के साथ फर्मेन्ट किये गए चारे (साइलेज) एवं अनाज अथवा अनाज युक्त पशु आहार पर रखा जाता है और यह सभी खाद्य अवयव रूमेन में एसिड बनने का कारण होते हैं जिस कारण पशु को एसिडोसिस होती है जो कि एक प्रकार का मेटाबोलिक विकार (disorder) होता है. जिसके लक्षण हैं पशु को कम भूख लगना, पशु का जुगाली कम करना, दूध में फैट का कम आना, धड़कन और श्वसन दर का बढ़ना, पशु का सुस्त पड़ना तथा पशु की मृत्यु.

अतः विन-एसिड एक ऐसा रूमेन बफर (उत्पाद) है जो कि दुधारू पशुओं को एसिडोसिस से होने वाले नुकसानों से बचाता है.
